Basil Pasta Bar is affordable, delicious, filling and definitely worth many tries. I went on my first double date with Jacky and we were surprised that we found a place that wasn’t too overpriced and at the same time served generous food portions in Yaletown. The restaurant is small so get there early before the line comes at around 6pm and after.
We were looking at the “Make You Own Pasta” menu for only CAD7.95 and my God we were in for such a good deal. We got to choose our own pasta, sauce, with an unlimited choice of vegetables, meat, cheese and herbs…it was like a dream come true for me.
I don’t have exact description of what our friend ordered but it was penne, basil tomatoes, bacon, and marinara.
As for me I ordered fettuccine with rose tomato cream sauce, shrimp, salmon, mozzarella, zucchini, spinach, mushrooms, parmesan, broccoli and asparagus. I was just in awe at my dish when it came because I loved everything in there unlike other places where I would pick out some of the ingredients in my pasta. The rose tomato cream was light and heavenly just perfect for me to finish every bite of my pasta without feeling overloaded.
Jacky ordered linguine with chicken, chorizo, mushrooms, broccoli, carrots, spinach, goat cheese, basil tossed with their house made curry sauce. Curry with linguine didn’t click in my head but after a taste of it, I loved how the curry tasted bold and creamy. It went very well with his pasta creation and perhaps if he didn’t add goat cheese the curry flavour would stand out even more.
I apologize for the blurry picture and the lack of information I have on our friend’s girlfriend’s pasta. She couldn’t finish it and I’m sure especially with the rich bolognese sauce infused into the curls of the fussily.
