Any hour is wine hour. On Saturday night, my friends and I decided to catch up over wine and cake at Italian Kitchen. It was hard to get a seat at IK unless you make reservations so thankfully we got in once we arrived. The place was slammed with people and it was loud, however our server Michael, was such a darling and so helpful in helping us choose our wine and cake. Big clap for the time he spent on us to explain all the wines.
All three of my friends ordered the Torta di Cioccolato (CAD9.95) – flourless chocolate cake, pecan crocante, espresso gelato and dazzled in a caramel sauce. Apparently this dessert really complimented their pinot noir but I wouldn’t know since I am not the best at red wine. The dessert was light, yet heavenly smothered in chocolate and ice cream. The cake was soft and moist but make sure you devour the ice cream first before it melts!
As for me since I had a glass of pinot gris and I wanted something more tangy and not as milky and light. Michael suggested the Limoncello Meringue Cheesecake (CAD9.95) with vanilla cheesecake, lime meringue and limoncello layer. The limoncello layer and meringue balanced the crispy flavour of my pinot gris making the experience more exciting and the wine more soothing to drink.
