The Mac Shack

The Mac Shack basically serves a mountain of thick and heavy cheese with macaroni in a bowl or Kraft Mac and Cheese escalated to a higher class accompanied with extra ingredients. The trip to the shack took us awhile and to my disappointment the restaurant was quite empty especially with The Mac Shack having a strong media presence and attention. I expected a line up and a packed restaurant since it was a Saturday lunch hour but after having a taste, let’s just say that it is only the brand name that people know, the dishes weren’t that great, and it’s a one time try sort of thing.

2013-09-01 14.33.05I had to try the highly recommended and oh-so-famous “Lobster Mac (13.40) which is baked lobster meat blended with peas, tomatoes, caramelized onions, Asiago cheese and aged Cheddar in cream sauce with lemon and truffle oil, topped off with three cheese medley and chives. I thought the portions were small until I had my first bite and I realized that I might not be able to finish this dish but I still went for it. Honestly this was overpriced due to the tasteless or buried in cheese lobster meat unless I bit into one piece without mixing it with any macaroni. Most of this was a domination of peas, macaroni and cheese so for that price I would say “no.”

The other order was “The Brooklyn (CAD11.99) and the blue cheese was overpowering everything in it! The baked cheese goodness includes seasoned slow roasted beef brisket with caramelized onions, roasted mushrooms in rose sauce, blue cheese, three cheese medley, chives, and balsamic glaze. I also liked how they included tomatoes which gave the blue cheese a very creamy and sweet flavour therefore not too strong. The Brooklyn was a better deal than the Lobster Mac especially with its choice of ingredients and creative flavours.
